How to Plant and Grow Beautiful Roses

Follow these simple steps to grow healthy, vibrant roses in your own garden.

1

Choose the Right Location

Select a spot with at least 6 hours of sunlight daily and well-draining soil. Roses thrive in areas with good air circulation to prevent fungal diseases.

2

Prepare the Soil

Dig a hole about 18 inches wide and deep. Mix the native soil with compost or well-rotted manure to improve fertility and drainage.

3

Plant the Rose Bush

Place the rose in the hole so the graft union (the swollen area where the rose was grafted onto rootstock) is about 2 inches below the soil surface in cold climates, or at soil level in warm climates.

4

Water Thoroughly

After planting, water deeply to settle the soil around the roots. Continue to water regularly, keeping the soil moist but not soggy.

5

Mulch and Maintain

Apply 2-3 inches of organic mulch around the base of the plant to conserve moisture and suppress weeds. Prune in early spring and fertilize regularly during the growing season.
